Reviews
I am in the process of building book shelf and cabinet built-ins in our remodeled basement. For joinery I will be using a combination pocket hole screws, biscuits and wooden dowels. This drill press will come in handy for edge drilling holes in boards for wooden dowels so they can be joined and edge glued together to form cabinet tops.At first I wasn't sure if this came with a depth stop gauge because it wasn't clear in the product description. I was delighted to find that it does indeed come with one. It is mounted on the right side on the handle shaft. What I Likeo Compact size. Fits on bench top. Doesn't take up too much room. Big enough to be useful.o Mostly metal construction.o Safety on/off switch. Pull for "on." Push for "off."o Simple assembly. All small parts are already assembled.o Easy adjustment of table with a single hand screw. Holds securely.o Slots in table to accommodate a vise or other attachment.o Table can be tilted or swung aside for drilling larger items. Base has slots for vise.o Descent power from 2.5A motor.o Adjustable speeds to match drilling requirements.o Depth stop adjustment. Good for partially drilling holes for dowels or cabinet door hidden hinges.o Smooth and relatively quiet operation. No wobble or excessive vibration.o Budget friendly.Summary CommentsThis is a compact drill press that is small enough to fit on a bench top yet large enough to be useful. It is relatively quiet and runs smoothly. Assembly is simple. If you are looking for a budget friendly drill press that will perform operations not easily achievable with a hand drill, this is a good choice.
Have you always wanted drill press for your home ?This may be a Great option. First the cost is very good for what you are getting. It stands about 2 feet high and weighs about 45 poundsIt has a belt system to adjust speed, can comes with a safety shield (if desired)If you just need a drill press once in a while or do some repetitive drilling this might be your answer.5 Stars
I'm satisfied with product, however the instruction manual has Model: DP0813ZM but the Garvee specs. show BOCHJ8ZS81. Also garvee shows 5 Gear Speed Adjustment but the owners manual no mention. I gave the product 5 stars only because it meets my needs but makes me wonder, did I get the wrong product.
Bought this for drilling holes in thick leather for stitching. So far it works great but does get a bit warm after an hour or so of continuous use.
In full disclosure I own a couple of other 8" drill press units from big names. This unit competes with either of them, as far as I can tell. Furthermore, it has a guard, which is something that they lack. The design is fairly typical with a rotating and sliding base. To adjust the speeds you have to manually change the way the bands are configured. If you think that is a pain, I have a 7.5HP 3-phase shaper that requires the same manual adjustment, but it is way more difficult.Quality seems absolutely fine. I will post pictures and more comments shortly.
SOlidly made compact drill press that has all the features of it's larger, higher priced cousins. For a small garage this fit perfectly on a work bench and can handle repetitive drilling uniform holes easily. I recommend it.
I have one of these sold under the Bauer label but it is the same drill press. The problem with the table can be corrected by moving the locking lever from the left side to the right side. It does seem like it belongs on the left but the collar is threaded for the right side only. It's a simple fix but the table will work perfectly if you do this.
These 8-inch benchtop drill presses are a versatile and affordable tool for woodworking and metalworking projects. They have a powerful 2.5 amp motor that can handle a variety of materials, and a 5-speed adjustable chuck that allows you to drill at the right speed for the job. The tilting table makes it easy to drill at different angles, and the swing distance of 0-45 degrees gives you plenty of flexibility.
It's a little wobbly, by no means a $600 unit or for a shop, but it works. I used it to cut 1/2" angled holes through 1/8" walled 4" square aluminum deck posts for recessed fasteners for my horizontal cabling. I used blocking to bolt the press down to a wooden pad and screwed a jig onto the same pad on the outbound side of the unit to hold the post at the 36° angle. The key was finding the right mill bit and my patience, and I got smooth cuts. I did not experiment with the rpm bands. For the price, height, radius and power it's a great value at $100.
Works well and is solid and durable.
